Send me your filters
Previous Back to contents Next

One of the Proxomitron's most powerful features is the ability for anyone to create new and more powerful filtering rules. It's my hope that this will lead to an ever-growing collection of useful filters which I can make available for all to download on the Proxomitron web page.

In the past I've encouraged users to email me any filters they've created they felt might be of use to others. However, I've had trouble keeping up with this of late. Many filters, especialy those targeted for specific sites, can become dated quickly or may have unforseen side-effects.

Luckily there are several good sources of filters now. One in particular is the file area of Yahoo's Proxomitron's mailing list. This is a great resource as any list member can add, edit, and maintain their own filters. Although you need to join the list to view the filters, you can set Yahoo's User interface to not send you list emails if you like and just do all your browssing through the web interface. Please note this is a user created list and I don't adminiser it myself.

Still, if you feel you've created someting generally useful feel free to send it in...

proxomitron@apexmail.com

Use a subject of: "New filter submission"

Including the following information...

Description: Tell me what your filter does
URL: Give me an example of a web page it's used on
Browser: Which web browser do you use (name and version)
Filter Text: do the following...

Step 1: Save the filter into a config file then edit that config file in a text editor.

Step 2: Search for your filter under the "[patterns]" section

Step 3: Cut and paste the filter's text into your email

Here's an example of what a filter looks like...

Name="Banner Blaster"
Active=True
Bounds = "<a\s*</a>"
Limit = 800
Match ="\s\1>*<img*(*src= "\w((/ad|sponsor|ads|banner|cgi)\w"|/0")|"
       "*width=[#466-480]&*height=[#55-60]|"
       "*width=[#88]&*height=[#31])*>*"
Replace = "<center><a \1>\r\n"
          "[Banner Killed]</a></center>\r\n"

Please Note: By submitting a filter, you are agreeing to place it in the public domain - you relinquish any copyright claim on it!

I'm mostly looking for web page filters, but if you create a useful HTTP header filter feel free to send that too.
